This is a working overview of 脂肪营养不良, written for readers who want more than a one-paragraph summary but less than a textbook.

Metabolic interest in this compound centers on fat distribution rather than on hormone levels alone. Imaging trials in adults with excess abdominal fat report reductions in visceral adipose tissue, while subcutaneous depots change comparatively little. Growth hormone and IGF-1 are presumed to carry the effect, but the separate contribution of each is not firmly established. Whether these changes persist after treatment stops, and whether they alter longer-term health outcomes, remain open questions that published work does not answer consistently.
Tesamorelin is a synthetic peptide of forty-four amino acids whose sequence reproduces human growth hormone-releasing hormone. Its distinguishing feature sits at the amino terminus, where a trans-3-hexenoyl group replaces the free amine. That acylation slows cleavage by dipeptidyl peptidase IV, an enzyme that otherwise removes the first two residues and inactivates the natural hormone quickly. The modified peptide therefore persists longer in circulation while keeping the same receptor target. It is handled as a lyophilized solid and dissolved shortly before use.
Signaling begins at the GHRH receptor, a class B G protein-coupled receptor displayed on somatotroph cells of the anterior pituitary. Receptor occupancy activates Gs proteins, which raise adenylyl cyclase activity and intracellular cyclic AMP, in turn driving protein kinase A dependent pathways. The downstream output is synthesis and pulsatile secretion of growth hormone into the bloodstream. Hepatic tissue and peripheral sites respond by increasing insulin-like growth factor 1 production. Somatostatin and IGF-1 itself supply negative feedback that caps the size and duration of each secretory burst.

Stanley L. Inhorn (August 1, 1928 – February 19, 2025) was an American physician who was professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he also served as Director of the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) on the UW campus. A graduate of Cleveland's Western Reserve University and Columbia University Medical School, Inhorn moved to Madison in 1953 to pursue an internship and residency in pathology before being appointed Assistant Professor of Pathology and Assistant Director of the WSLH in 1960. He became Director of the WSLH in 1966, a position he held until 1979, when he was asked by the UW Medical School to create a Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine.
=== Available forms === Tiagabine is available in the form of 2, 4, 5, 10, 12, 15, and 16 mg oral tablets. The drug is taken 1 to 4 times per day due to its short elimination half-life. A sustained-release formulation would be advantageous but has not been developed or marketed.
Induces endometrial secretory transformation in preparation for pregnancy (>5 ng/mL) Prevents estrogen-induced endometrial hyperplasia and increased endometrial cancer risk Maintains pregnancy via effects in endometrium (with withdrawal resulting in miscarriage) Reduces amount and fibrosity of cervical mucus and causes cervix to become firmer and more tightly closed Controls motility and composition of fluid in the fallopian tubes Reduced cornification and maturation of the vaginal lining Causes water retention in the breasts resulting in temporary enlargement during the menstrual cycle Mediates lobuloalveolar development of the breasts necessary for lactation Suppresses lactation initiation and triggers lactation upon withdrawal (as with parturition) Maintains skin health, integrity, appearance, and hydration and slows the rate of aging of the skin Modulates brain function, with effects on mood, emotionality, and sexuality, as well as cognition and memory Exerts negative feedback on the hypothalamic–pituitary–gonadal axis (HPG axis) by suppressing the secretion of the gonadotropins FSH and LH from the pituitary gland (including the mid-cycle gonadotropin surge), thereby inhibiting gonadal sex hormone production as well as ovulation and fertility (>2 ng/mL) Increases basal body temperature (by 0.3–0.6 °C (0.5–1.0 °F) relative to preovulation) via the hypothalamus (>4 ng/mL) Reduces hot flashes via the hypothalamus Stimulates respiration via the hypothalamus and/or respiratory center Influences the risk and/or progression of hormone-sensitive cancers including breast cancer and endometrial cancer Many of the effects of progesterone require estrogen, as estrogens prime tissues for progesterone by inducing expression of the PRs. The PRs are induced in the breasts by estrogens, and for this reason, it is assumed that progestogens cannot mediate breast changes in the absence of estrogens. Progesterone also lowers blood pressure and reduces water and salt retention among other effects via its antimineralocorticoid activity. Progesterone can produce sedative, hypnotic, anxiolytic, euphoric, cognitive-, memory-, and motor-impairing, anticonvulsant, and even anesthetic effects via formation of sufficiently high concentrations of its neurosteroid metabolites and consequent GABAA receptor potentiation in the brain.
=== Analysis === Northeastern University School of Law professor Alexandra Roberts argued that Twitter's claim that certain individuals paid for Twitter Blue may violate state and federal false representation laws, such as the Lanham Act, popularized through a retweet by dril, but reserved that Twitter was not making a direct advertisement. Solicitor Simon McGarr mentioned that Twitter's insistence on the blue checkmark for some users, such as dril, may violate the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in the European Union, as verifying accounts requires a phone number. McGarr also noted Tolley v. Fry, a 1931 court case filed against chocolate bar manufacturer J. S. Fry & Sons by golfer Cyril Tolley alleging that the advertising of chocolate bars with a caricature of Tolley was defamatory, or the similar case Eddie Irvine v. Talksport between racing driver Eddie Irvine and sports radio station Talksport. Other scholars have cited the Federal Trade Commission Act of 1914, while some have pointed to the disdain for blue checkmarks and the potential effects of the checkmark on celebrities' reputations. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has not commented on Twitter Blue, although an anonymous former FTC official called it "deceptive". Following the initial implementation of paid verification, the Twitter account for the anti-vaccine propaganda film Died Suddenly (2022) became verified. The account has been used to spread medical misinformation, including of COVID-19 vaccines.
Loss of perivascular collagen occurs; it is thought that this is due to the degradative enzymes released by extravasating leukocytes, such that the collagen and other connective tissue fibers surrounding blood vessels in the area dissolve. When this occurs the gums will appear bright red and either bulbous or rounded, from all the excess fluid building up in the infected area. The initial lesion appears within two to four days of gingival tissue being subjected to plaque accumulation. When not generated through clinical experimentation, the initial lesion may not appear at all, and instead, a detectable infiltrate similar to that of the early lesion, explained below, appears.

Usual interstitial pneumonia (UIP) is a form of lung disease characterized by progressive scarring of both lungs. The scarring (pulmonary fibrosis) involves the pulmonary interstitium (the supporting framework of the lung). UIP is thus classified as a form of interstitial lung disease.
==== Juvenile breast hypertrophy ==== In 1993, the Japanese journal Surgery Today reported on the case of a 12-year-old girl. Only 152 centimetres (60 in) tall and weighing 43 kilograms (95 lb), her breasts began to develop at age 11 before the onset of menstruation. Over the next eight months, both breasts grew abnormally large, and physicians treating her found that her physiological development was normal except for her breasts. The weight produced by their symmetrical and massive enlargement resulted in marked curvature of the spine. Lab tests of her blood for hormones and biochemical substances showed normal values, though tests revealed that it might have been caused by hypersensitivity to estrogen. She underwent a bilateral reduction mammoplasty. Surgeons removed 2 kilograms (4.4 lb) of tissue from her right breast and 1.9 kilograms (4.2 lb) from her left breast. She was administered tamoxifen afterward to suppress breast regrowth. A more severe case of juvenile breast hypertrophy of an 11-year-old girl was reported in 2008. The breasts had begun to grow rapidly at puberty and had reached the point of causing physical and psychological impairment and possible respiratory compromise after ten months. The skin was intact without any ulcerations. Blood chemistry and endocrine investigation was normal. A bilateral reduction mammaplasty with free nipple grafts was performed. 6 kg (13 lb) of the right breast and 6.5 kg (14 lb) of the left breast were removed, resulting in a removal of 12.5 kg (28 lb) of tissue in all (24% of the total body weight).
Subsequent industry developments have included the involvement of major tobacco companies in the e-cigarette market through subsidiaries and acquisitions; for example, British American Tobacco's U.S. unit Reynolds American markets Vuse products, and in 2023 Altria acquired NJOY's e-vapor product portfolio. In parallel with regulatory scrutiny and industry consolidation, e-cigarette manufacturers have faced significant product liability and consumer protection litigation. In April 2023, Juul Labs agreed to pay $462 million to settle claims brought by six U.S. states and the District of Columbia alleging unlawful marketing of its products to minors. Public safety concerns related to lithium ion batteries have also extended beyond consumer use to storage, disposal, and waste handling. Public safety authorities have warned about fire risks associated with lithium ion batteries in disposable e-cigarettes during storage, disposal and waste handling. Ahead of the United Kingdom's disposable vape ban taking effect in June 2025, the Local Government Association cautioned that lithium batteries inside disposable vapes could pose a fire and risk-to-life hazard if not stored correctly. In the UK, these concerns have been reflected in government and media reporting on waste-related fires. In 2025, reporting linked discarded single use vapes to fires in waste collection vehicles and recycling facilities, citing warning from the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs and estimates of more than 1,200 battery-related fires at waste sites in 2023.

The suit also alleged that Theranos had misled company directors about its practices concerning laboratory testing and that it had secretly bought lab equipment to run fake demonstrations. On May 1, 2017, Theranos announced that it had reached an undisclosed settlement with Partner Fund Management LP (PFM). Theranos's General Counsel, David Taylor, stated: "Theranos is pleased to have resolved both lawsuits with PFM. Although we are confident that we would have prevailed at trial, resolution of these two cases allows our tender offer to go forward and enables us to return our focus where it belongs, which is on executing our business plans and delivering value for our shareholders." In April 2017, Theranos reached a settlement with CMS agreeing to stay out of the blood-testing business for at least two years in exchange for reduced penalties, and signed a consent decree with Arizona Attorney General Mark Brnovich over violations of the Arizona Consumer Fraud Act. Alleged violations included false advertisement and inaccurate blood testing. Theranos agreed to refund $4.65 million to the state's residents for Theranos blood testing services, providing a refund to every resident who had received a test, regardless of whether the test results were voided or corrected. In August 2017, Theranos announced it had reached a settlement with Walgreens. In December 2017, Fortress Investment Group, a wholly owned company of Softbank Group, loaned $100 million to Theranos for 4% of the company.

Two phase 3 clinical trials for major depressive disorder are being initiated in November 2024 and February 2025. The drug is under development by Helus Pharma (formerly Cybin).
== Analogues in non-vertebrate organisms == A variety of oxygen-transport and -binding proteins exist in organisms throughout the animal and plant kingdoms. Organisms including bacteria, protozoans, and fungi all have hemoglobin-like proteins whose known and predicted roles include the reversible binding of gaseous ligands. Since many of these proteins contain globins and the heme moiety (iron in a flat porphyrin support), they are often called hemoglobins, even if their overall tertiary structure is very different from that of vertebrate hemoglobin. In particular, the distinction of "myoglobin" and hemoglobin in lower animals is often impossible, because some of these organisms do not contain muscles. Or, they may have a recognizable separate circulatory system but not one that deals with oxygen transport (for example, many insects and other arthropods). In all these groups, heme/globin-containing molecules (even monomeric globin ones) that deal with gas-binding are referred to as oxyhemoglobins. In addition to dealing with transport and sensing of oxygen, they may also deal with NO, CO2, sulfide compounds, and even O2 scavenging in environments that must be anaerobic. They may even deal with detoxification of chlorinated materials in a way analogous to heme-containing P450 enzymes and peroxidases.
=== Final weeks on the Gulf Coast === Filming resumed on July 19. The sandpit fight scene between Bosworth and pro wrestler Tom Magee was shot in Bay St. Louis. It was aborted after a first attempt where Bosworth clipped Magee's cheek with a punch, and finished two weeks later on August 9. While a King Features gossip column claimed that the botch had led to a real scuffle, Bosworth himself assured that the accident had been handled in a civil manner by both. The final scene shot on the Gulf Coast was a gas station explosion on Daisy Vestry Road in Latimer on August 10.

The amino acid sequence matches human growth hormone-releasing hormone, but the amino terminus carries a trans-3-hexenoyl group instead of a free amine. That single structural change chiefly affects enzymatic stability rather than receptor selectivity.
